Winter jackets and waterproofness |
Every year around this time, when the sale of winter jackets is at its peak, we're often asked by our customers if the jackets are waterproof.
Winter jackets, in general, are not waterproof as such, but most often they have strong water repelling properties. A full waterproof quality, as seen in rain jackets, is not desirable, as it will also reduce the jackets ability to respire and then create a worse climate inside the jacket as well as increasing the risk of dehydration.
A winter jacket in modern technical textiles (e.g. Atex, Windtex, Gore Windstopper) will keep you warm though, even when riding in rain although it can not be described as waterproof.
With a technical base shirt, a long sleeved jersey of the type with the inside scratched up and a winter jacket of the above mentioned type, you should be equipped to ride in all types of weather and keep a good climate inside the jacket. |
